Norkring’s role in the radio switch-over

On behalf of NRK, Digitalradio Norge and Bauer Media, Norkring has built the world’s most extensive DAB network, ensuring the Norwegian population access to digital radio.

The new DAB network has been delivered at the agreed time, cost and quality. 99.5 percent of the Norwegian population is currently covered by national DAB networks, in compliance with the authorities’ requirements for coverage.

The price tag for DAB development is NOK 1 billion. Behind all those zeros are many different elements that together make up the world’s most extensive DAB network.

Norway is at the forefront of the digitalisation of radio media and is the first country in the world to have phased out FM. The foundation has been laid to take radio into the future with DAB.
